Dental Diagnostics

Dental diagnostics is the most important thing we can do for our patients. The ability to identify dental problems at an early stage and establish a treatment is of paramount importance. Do not underestimate the long term time and cost savings this can achieve.

Visual inspection

We check oral soft tissues and teeth. We are looking for signs of oral pathology and the condition of the periodontal tissues (gum disease). We check teeth for decay, cracks, failed existing restorations, acid erosion and heavy bite wear (bruxism).

Digital x-rays

High resolution x-rays can now be taken to detect dental problems long before you become aware that something is wrong.

Intra oral photography

This can show you instantly a magnified view of any teeth in the mouth all in living colour on an LCD TV screen.

Saliva Testing

We can detect deficiencies in saliva quality and quantity. This can predispose you to abnormal tooth wear and decay susceptibility. We can advise supplements to help maintain a neutral oral PH.

Digital Study Models

These allow full screen visualisation of your teeth. We can assess many things from tooth wear to orthodontic problems from these.

Periodontal Index Charting

A computerised chart can map the attachment levels of your teeth to gum and bone. For patients over forty years of age periodontal disease is the number one cause of tooth loss.

i CAT scans

These provide detailed 3D images of teeth and bone. These can be used for assessing implant placements to wisdom tooth removal.

Electronic pulp testing

This can be used to assess health or vitality in teeth receiving more complex restorative treatments. This is also helpful in pain diagnosis.

REMEMBER...

We will always be better at dental diagnostics than you!

We can detect a problem long before you feel it. But we can’t detect it if we don’t see you.
